Meanwell GS160A24-R7BGU is a 160-watt, 24-volt power supply manufactured by Meanwell, a well-known supplier of power supplies in the electronics industry. This power supply comes with various advantages and disadvantages that are essential to consider before making a purchase.
Advantages:1. High-efficiency: With an efficiency rating of up to 93%, this power supply converts most of the input power into output power, saving energy and reducing heat generation.
2. High reliability: Meanwell is a reputable manufacturer known for producing high-quality and reliable power supplies that perform consistently over extended periods.
3. Universal input: The power supply accepts a wide range of input voltages (100-240VAC) and frequencies (50-60Hz), allowing it to be used in different regions and power outlets.
4. Short circuit protection: The Meanwell power supply comes with short circuit protection, safeguarding against erroneous electrical conditions.
5. Overvoltage and undervoltage protection: The power supply accepts an input voltage range but also ensures that the output voltage remains within the specified range to protect connected equipment.
Disadvantages:1. Limited output voltage ranges: While the Meanwell GS160A24-R7BGU can handle 160 watts at a nominal 24V output, it is not suitable for all applications that require a specific voltage since changes to output voltage require a separate transformer.
2. Size and weight: The power supply measures about 138 x 63 x 53 mm and weighs approximately 1.16 kg. This makes it a relatively large and heavy choice for projects that require a compact power solution.
3. Cost: Compared to smaller, lower-wattage power supplies, the Meanwell GS160A24-R7BGU may come with a higher price tag, which could be a deterrent for some hobbyists and smaller businesses.
In conclusion, the Meanwell GS160A24-R7BGU power supply offers advantages like high efficiency, reliability, universal input, and built-in protection mechanisms. However, it also comes with disadvantages like limited output voltage ranges, size, weight, and cost. Ultimately, it is essential to weigh these advantages and disadvantages against one's power requirements, project specifications, and budget before making a purchasing decision.
Recommendation: If a project demands a reliable, high-wattage, 24V power supply, and the size, weight, and cost are not significant concerns, then the Meanwell GS160A24-R7BGU can be a wise choice. Nevertheless, if the project configuration demands a smaller power supply, it may be worthwhile to explore other options that cater to those requirements.
You're buying on the Mean Well GS160A24-R7BGU AC/DC Switching Adapter. I originally had a Thrust master T500 sim racing wheel that used this type of power supply. Then Fry's had an insane clearance deal on the T500. Even when my original wheel wore out and I switched to the backup, continued use power supply that came with first.
Beyond that, it sat and never got used. I may be new, but I m not new. So I bought a backup for super cheap. This was the second power supply that I used for a couple hours just to verify it good.
Buyer pays shipping costs. Its just been lying around in a closet for years. This has been barely used beyond testing. My old user name was Mr Prompt and i've decided to continue that with my new.
I think the specs are best described on label in picture.
